Spotlight on: Hyatt Zilara

Hyatt Zilara - Cancun

Hyatt Zilara is an all-inclusive adults only luxury resort  located in the hotel zone in Cancun. All rooms face the ocean so even the rooms where the view is blocked a little by the tall palm trees will get a glimpse of the ocean. You can visit the nearby Hyatt Ziva family resort for dinner.
The hotel has 307 suites over 8 floors. The décor is elegant and traditional.
Pool

The resort has an infinity pool overlooking the beach. Pool service is available for drinks, but not food. The chairs have individual shades on the top plus some umbrellas are available. Day beds are available first come, first serve so you’ll need to get to the pool early to get one. The swim up bar hosts the pool activities. A quieter pool is also available.

Beach

The beach has some seaweed. Bar service is available on the beach.  Day beds have some shade, but lounge chairs don’t have much. The cabanas are also available first come, first serve on the beach.

Restaurants
No reservations are required for most restaurants. Hibachi tables in the Asian restaurants require reservations because they only seat 16 people at a time. Guests in an ocean front suite or higher category of room have the option to reserve The Chef’s Plate - a 2.5 hour experience for 16 guests or the Asian Rice Table - an Asian culinary experience for 8 guests. Some restaurants offer live music during dinner.

Asian Rice Table

I met with the Director of Food and Beverage when I visited the resort in October 2015. Food allergies are flagged in the system. When you give your room number at the restaurant, an alert comes up so the restaurant captain and the chef can work together to prepare your meal. Allergy safe meals are available through room service. Please note this will increase the wait time since the meals have to be specially prepared in the kitchen.  At the buffet,  you can review what’s available and ask for a special meal. If the Chef has the ingredients on hand, he may be able to make it. Again, there will be a wait for the Chef to specially prepare the dish.   The food and beverage team will also change out the liquor in your room if needed.

Room Service is available 24 hours a day.  The 24 Hour Bar and Lounge is available 24 hours a day.

Activities and Night Life
When I visited the resort in October 2015, a performance troupe held shows in the main lobby on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  The Lounges sometimes have light music until 10 pm. On Tuesday afternoons from 3 pm - 6 pm is a foam party in the main pool. Saturdays bring a White Night Party so be sure to pack your best white outfit.  The 24 Hour Bar and Lounge has Sunday ticket so you don’t have to miss your NFL football.
Don’t miss - the bicycle tour of downtown Cancun and Friday night martini tasting. Be sure to try an Anejo mojito.
SPA
The Spa has a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, and plunge pool available to all guests.

It’s a great place to change if you happen to get to the resort before your room is ready.
This resort would be great for a group of friends or a fun-loving couple. The nightlife is right outside the door on the Cancun strip. The vibe is friendly and fun - not too romantic. The entry level rooms are great so you can feel confident booking those. I personally would likely book an ocean front room to try to get reservations at the Chef’s Plate and Asian Rice Table.
