Every once in a while I am pleasantly surprised by a location. In June, I traveled to Southern Illinois for a wedding and I loved the area. It was a great reminder to get out of the cities and enjoy some more rural areas of our country.

Some of the highlights:

Davie School Inn, Anna, Illinois

I loved this bed and breakfast! It is an old school house renovated into large suites with king size beds. This is the Black Suite. I loved all the antique touches in a modern environment. The bathroom had a large soaking tub and double sinks.

Shawnee Hills Wine Trail

Southern Illinois hosts a large number of wineries that make wines from grapes and other fruits. It is a fun way to explore the beautiful rolling hills and farms.

The Super Museum, Metropolis, IL

This "super museum" is about 40 miles from Anna. This is a roadside attraction at its finest. It is an impressive personal collection of all things Superman.

Getting there: We flew into Nashville and it was about a 3 and 1/2 hour drive. You could also fly into St. Louis.
